Associa Webinar Spotlights the Power of Legislative Advocacy for Community Associations

DALLAS, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Associa, the industry’s largest community management company, hosted a legislative advocacy webinar to help community association leaders, board members, managers and industry partners better understand the importance of advocacy and its role in protecting the future of community living. 

The webinar, “Make Your Voice Heard: Why Advocating for Your Community Matters,” drew over 200 registrants and explored what advocacy is, why it matters and how individuals across the community association industry can get involved. The session was moderated by Greg Smith, CMCA®, AMS®, PCAM®, director of learning and development at Associa, and featured John Krueger, vice president of government affairs at Associa.

During the session, Krueger outlined how advocacy helps educate lawmakers, correct misinformation, provide context, offer solutions and help avoid negative legislative outcomes. He also discussed current federal and state legislative priorities affecting community associations. These include the Corporate Transparency Act, FEMA parity and the ROAD to Housing Act, as well as state-level issues related to reserve studies and funding, insurance, affordable housing, self-governance controls, dispute resolution, fines and foreclosure limits, assessment increase limits and fee caps.

The webinar also highlighted examples of successful advocacy efforts in states including California, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Oklahoma. Attendees were encouraged to view advocacy as a year-round effort that involves homeowners, board members, community managers, attorneys, insurance representatives, banking representatives and other industry partners.

As part of its commitment to supporting the community association industry, Associa maintains a dedicated government affairs function led by Krueger, who has directed the company’s advocacy efforts across the United States for nearly 12 years. His background spans more than 36 years in government and public affairs, including leadership roles on Capitol Hill, in the Texas Legislature and as a consultant and lobbyist for corporate and nonprofit entities. He currently chairs Community Associations Institute’s Government and Public Affairs Committee and serves on the Federal Legislative Action Committee as well as multiple state legislative action committees.
